Control your teleprompter from an Apple Watch

Reaching for the phone to pause a take puts your hand in the shot and your eyes off the lens. Rolltake runs from your wrist: play, pause, and speed, all from the Apple Watch, free.

Setting up the Apple Watch remote

The Watch app installs alongside it. Open Rolltake on the phone once so the Watch app can connect.

Find Rolltake in the Watch app grid. It shows Play, Pause, and speed controls, plus the current speed level.

Load a script and enter the prompter. The Watch mirrors the state: tap Play on the wrist to start the scroll, Pause to hold it.

Use the speed buttons on the Watch to change scroll speed live. Changes apply instantly and are saved with the script.

Using a Bluetooth teleprompter remote

If you already own a Bluetooth teleprompter remote, it works too. Open Settings from the script list, tap Teleprompter Remote, and pick your remote from the list. Rolltake remembers it and reconnects automatically. Dedicated BLE remotes (Neewer and similar) pair inside the app. Plain Bluetooth keyboards, clickers, page-turner rings, and game controllers need no pairing at all beyond iOS.

Button mapping is the same across remotes: one button toggles play and pause, two more step the speed up and down. Speed steps are saved with the script, so the pace you settle on in rehearsal is the pace you get on the take.

Which should you use?

The Apple Watch wins if you already wear one. Nothing to charge separately, nothing to lose, and it's on your wrist when you sit down to record. A dedicated remote wins for beam-splitter rigs where the phone sits inside a hood and for anyone who wants a physical button they can find without looking. Rolltake supports both at the same time, so you can start from the Watch and adjust from the remote.
